okay, here am i with an update of what i did last weekend!have a lot of backlog for blogging and schoolwork. but decided to clear this blogging backlog first, cos anymore backlog and i can't rmb what we did already (: so it was friday 27/2 when our (new) friends from stockholm came to visit these are the girls that loaned us their floor for a night, met us at the subway(we were sort of total strangers, okay maybe facebook friends for chu&me) at 130am. so they came to squeeze in my peder skrams gade room (thank goodness my neighbours were all off for an oslo booze cruise! so it was not too squeezy) so we brought them to see the harbour below, nyhavn  and of course the mermaid again! this is my 3rd time there. but i think this is my fave photo cos it was cold but not too cold so i managed to smile a little bit more naturally. (:  the mermaid is a must see in cph! even though how "little" it is. its like singapore's merlion in that sense (minus the prosperity connotations. ps: i heard merlion got struck by lightning! how suay is that!)  charlies angels like pose at opp the royal opera house lets just say the stockholm girls like to take fun photos! yayers! me too!  at the royal play house for dramas and stuff. (: doesnt this look sooo cool.  then the cbs girls went to watch the CBS case competition which NUS was participating but sadly didnt make it to the finals! but it was cool nonetheless to see finalists-participants from CBS, USC and Uni of Auckland battle it out. it must have been a very grueling process for them :( it was also interesting to watch a case competition and the top CEOs from companies grilling the finalists. i dont know if im prepared for this sort of stuff. i think u'll really have to know ur facts well and a lot of on the spot thinking. btw, USC won. after the competition there was a reception! being poor exchange students, we *stood at the reception table and gobbled up food. hahah like mini sandwich bites, nuts, free drinks (coke and beer), fruits, pastries and never left the table. im serious you know like in buffets people take food and leave? we just stood there with some of our exchange friends and hogged the buffet table. i must have at least ate 8 small breads. hahah. okay this is embarrassing indeed. but at least we settled dinner there! but we're like so poor here! and did i tell u in kiruna on the train i "koped" the rubbish bags so i could use it to store stuff. not one, but a whole pile. :D ahh. okokay. shan't mention more of my 'paiseh' behaviours. so we met the stockholm girls who came back from christianhavn and trying the pastries we told them (they found it good!) and then we left to go for rachel's where they ate pizza from the supermarket and we had fun talking and singing karaoke songs. then we woke up real early in the morning (leaving at 8am!) to take train to helsingor (in denmark itself) and helsingborg(sweden). Helsingor, also known as “Elsinore” lies about 45 kilometres (28 miles) north of Copenhagen. It has 60,000 inhabitants and is surrounded by the The Sound (Oresund) - the stretch of water between Denmark and Sweden. Helsingor is the closest Danish city to Sweden.  i made sandwiches for the stockholm girls! and they were quite yummy (i think) :DDDDD ham and eggg and mayo!  this is us on the train i know this is so unglam. but doesnt my calves look skinny. :D hahah  i saw this pic of a little kid eating ice cream SO CUTE!  we went into a church and this is what they depicted of noah's ark funny lor! koala! :DDD guess they didnt have enough soft toys  danish soldier cuteness!  at Church of St. Mary and the Carmelite Monastery i thought i really liked their red brick stucture and the columns and we did a little camwhoring below. and acting emo   one thing i thought is so cute about danish trees are that right now, they are always shaped so weirdly or like cut into square shapes  dad this is for u or brother this is for u this guy is selling honey and there were like 4-5 more stalls selling various produce like fruits, cheese, vege so far this is the most i've seen of flea markets i really think fleas dont come out in scandinavia in the winter. :D  salvation army ja-ba-lang store! i think it is anyway. recognised the familar logo and then we walked to Kronborg Castle! The castle's story dates back to a fortress, Krogen, built in the 1420s by the Danish king, Eric of Pomerania. The king insisted on the payment of sound dues by all ships wishing to enter or leave the Baltic Sea; to help enforce his demands, he built a powerful fortress controlling the sound. It then consisted of a number of buildings inside a surrounding wall. Kronborg is known by many also as "Elsinore," the setting for much of William Shakespeare's famous tragedy Hamlet, Prince of Denmark. Hamlet was performed in the actual castle for the first time to mark the 200th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare, with a cast consisting of soldiers from the castle garrison. The stage was in the telegraph tower in the southwest corner of the castle. The play has since been performed several times in the courtyard and at various locations on the fortifications. Later performers to play Hamlet at the castle included Laurence Olivier, John Gielgud and Derek Jacobi, with Christopher Plummer starring in a 1964 television version that was filmed there. it's really pretty! my first visit to see a real castle castle.  so we went to visit the castle's interiors! woah and we saw this statue of Ogier the Dane, who, according to legend, slumbers here until the day Denmark is in grave danger, at which time he will arise and save the nation. (but the guide said: he didnt wake up during the world wars! :()   this used to be an old fountain in the castle but was removed and taken away as a war item by Sweden Imagine if it was still there. it's really so pretty  The logo Christian 4 (C4) put by one of the kings  the royal spread they would have everyday! lucky them! lobsters, mussels, pies... ps: do you know lemons used to be so expensive that they would have to pay like 3000kroners, which means like 1k sing dollars for lemons, so the rich people, or the really RICH womans would go "i only eat lemons" :S HAHAHHAH  the ballroom!  the door of the queen's chamber, which is now used as a door when the queen(of today) makes a royal entrance if they are hosting any official functions  the door closed.  these wall tapestries give an insight to how the king died and how he was like during his reign. Apparently this picture with wildlife in the foreground shows that this king, king abel died a dreadful death. on the left side of the king, a falcon has put its claws on a small bird while a poisonous snake is quietly slipping away in the shrubbery underneath. this shows the struggle between good and evil. in the instance, evil. the king had killed his brother and was then himself killed in an uprising 2 years after,   the castle church! quaint but pretty and then we boarded a ferry-which seemed more like a cruise to go to the other place, helsingborg  this is me omgg the wind was bigggness :( COLD  Karnan Fortress  which has guarded Helsingborg for more than 600 years  Dinner was at a Thai restaurant! it was salty but oh well i havent had pad thai for a longlonggglongggg time okay maybe not for about 2 months but thats long enough! it cost us like 12 sing dollars.  and my stash of haagen dazs. surprisingly, one tub only cost me sing 9 bucks. i dont know why mans!  and then we headed back to copenhagen, the stockholm girls wanted to try smorrebrod which is simply like toppings on brown bread so we tried to find an outlet! and managed to find one near the central stn operated by a CHINESE woman and the opening hours are till 12am. talk about chinese being hardworking! cos i think few establishments in copenhagen open pass 7pm let alone till midnight.  smorrebrod with fish on top! we didnt try but the stockholm girls did and they said it was nice! it's like.. 8-9 sing dollars for one. (not that bad!)   and this is my stash from the asian supermarket/thai supermarket. the oyster sauce was like half of cph price lah! but then after buying and coming home i got a little worried. i think i might have too much food that i cant finish cos i only have 3+ + more months here!! finished the bag of vietnamese fruit chips already. and maybe i;ll cook the "chap cai" tonight! charmaine is coming to my place for dinner! and watching romeo and juliet ballet tonight. so cultured huh! and tmr i have an Asians Potluck dinner. My first attempt cooking curry. JIAYOU! HEEHEE |
